Javier Alonso began his musical studies in his hometown of La Bañeza (León). He soon graduated in guitar studies and also obtained his teaching certificate at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid.

He studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Helena Lazarska and Edith Mathis and as member of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Robert Schunk with whom he is currently working on a lyrical tenor repertory and graduated in 2009. Since then he is working He has taken part in masterclasses with Peter Schreier, Brigitte Fassbaender and Wolfram Rieger. He is currently working with Paula Anglin with whom he is preparing his lyrical tenor repertory.

After winning second prize in the International “Ferruccio Tagliavini” contest in Deutschlandsberg (Austria) he won the first Prize at the Spanish Young Musicians Competition (Juventudes Musicales de España) in 2005. September 2010 Javier Alonso was awarded together with pianist Ainoa Padrón with the 3rd Prize at the Hugo Wolf International Competition for the Art of Lied in Stuttgart. The jury included such famous artists as Brigitte Fassbaender, Graham Johnson, Kurt Widmer, Birgid Steinberger, Wolfram Rieger and Robert Holl.

He made his professional debut in the role of Bastien in Mozart’s “Bastien and Bastienne” at the Teatro Real, Madrid. The production was directed by Emilio Sagi. He also sang in Ravel’s “L'heure espagnole” and Cavalli’s “La Calisto” (Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, Vienna), in Mozart’s “La finta giardiniera” in the Vienna Concert House, as part of the Mozart Year 2006 celebrations, in Strawinsky's “Mavra / Le Rossignol” and Purcell's “Dido and Aeneas” at the Opera Aachen (Germany).

As Lied Recital Singer he appeared at the prestigious International Festival of Music and Dance in Granada, in Barcelona (Palau de la Música Catalana), in Oviedo (Auditorio Príncipe Felipe), in Auditorio León (with german soprano Diana Damrau), in Ljubljana (Slovene Philarmonic), at the 16th Schubertiada Vilabertrán (with austrian Jess-Trio-Wien), in Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw and in Cologne at the Kölner Philharmonie.

His concerts have been broadcasted on Catalunya Música and RTVE in Spain, RTV in Slovenia, Radio 4 in The Netherlands, WDR3 and SWR2 in Germany.
